Aquatic Safety Rules
Welcome to the Dwinell Pool: A Safe Space for Every Swimmer
At the CCBA, our Dwinell Pool is a hub of activity for the entire Lebanon community. Whether you are here for a family splash, focused lap swimming, or a relaxing soak, safety is our top priority. Please review our guidelines below to help us ensure a safe, clean, and pleasant experience for everyone.
New to the pool? Please introduce yourself to the lifeguard on duty! We are happy to answer your questions.
Before You Swim: Hygiene & Attire
To maintain the highest water quality for our members:
- Shower First: Health regulations require all swimmers to shower before entering the pool, hot tub, or cold plunge.
- Proper Attire: Please wear appropriate swimwear (no cut-offs). Shoulder-length hair must be tied back or tucked into a swim cap.
- Health Check: For the safety of others, please do not use the facilities if you have severe cuts or open sores. Please remove all Band-Aids before swimming.
- Little Ones: Disposable diapers are not permitted. Swim diapers are required for children not yet potty trained and are available for purchase at the front desk.
- Prohibited Items: Please keep glass, food, drink, gum, and street shoes out of the pool area.
Youth Safety & Supervision
We love seeing families enjoy the water together! To keep our youngest members safe:
- Non-Swimmers: An adult must be in the water and within arm’s reach of any non-swimmers or children wearing life jackets.
- Flotation Devices: We strongly recommend life jackets for non-swimmers. Please note that air-filled flotation devices (like water wings) are not permitted.
- The Deep End Test: To access water past chest-depth or use the diving board, swimmers must pass our deep end test. Just ask a lifeguard!
- The Test: Jump into the deep end, swim to the halfway mark with face in the water, and tread water for one minute.
- Diving Board Safety: When the board is open (usually during Family Swim), please wait until the previous swimmer has reached the ladder before jumping. Catching children at the bottom of the slide or diving board is not permitted.
Lap Swim Etiquette
- Lane Entry: Please enter lanes from the shallow end and alert any swimmer already in the lane before joining.
- Circle Swimming: If there are more than two swimmers in a lane, circle swimming is required.
- Safety Lines: Please do not hang on or swim over lane lines or the ramp rails.
- Lane Changes: For everyone's safety, we may add or remove lanes approximately 10 minutes before a schedule change.
- Age Guidelines: Lap swimming is generally for members 7th grade and older. Competitive youth swimmers may lap swim with a parent or with permission from our Aquatics Director.
Hot Tub & Cold Plunge
- Age Requirement: You must be 18 or older to use the hot tub and cold plunge. (Ages 15–17 may use these facilities if a parent or guardian is present).
General Community Safety
- Respect Others: Please be considerate of fellow members—no roughhousing, dunking, spitting water, or personal displays of affection.
- Toys & Equipment: You are welcome to bring pool toys at the lifeguard's discretion. For safety reasons, mono-fins are not allowed for children (adults please consult the Aquatics Director).
- Weather Policy: In the event of lightning, the pool will close for 30 minutes after the last strike.
- Note: While we can issue a rain check day pass for extended closures, refunds are not given for weather delays.
- Instruction: Only CCBA staff may provide coaching or personal training in our facility.
Understanding Our Swim Schedule
- Family Swim: Open fun! Children under 7th grade and non-swimmers MUST be accompanied by an adult in the water.
- Masters Swim: A coached program for ages 16+ (included in membership). Note that parts of the pool may be utilized for this group.
- Aqua Fitness: Group classes for 9th grade and older.
- Swim Lessons: Please check the schedule, as sections of the pool are reserved for instruction during these times.
Our Lifeguards Are Here to Help Our lifeguards have final authority on all safety decisions. If a rule isn't listed here, please defer to their judgment to keep everyone safe. Failure to follow instructions may result in being asked to leave the pool area.
